A proof of this love is this photo that has gone viral on Facebook with over 300 thousand likes.
It’s of John Unger and his dog Schoep. Schoep is a 19 year old shepherd mix who has severe arthritis, due to this Unger takes him everyday to his favorite spot, Lake Superior, for a little “ritual”. They get into the warm waters of the lake and Unger holds Schoep so he can rest and sleep. The water makes Schoep feel weightless and relaxed.
John has have Schoep since he was a 8 months old puppy. They’ve been together for almost two decades.
The author of this photograph is Unger’s friend photographer Hannah Stonehouse Hudson. Unger wanted someone to capture this special moment that he shares with his best friend.
This just gives the expression “in loving arms” a whole new level of meaning. It is wonderful to see the love that people have for their dogs, who are not just a pet, they are our friends, our family, our companions. These relationships are indeed larger that life.
